Living and Learning as God’s People

At First Baptist Church, there are many opportunities for you to: Worship the King, Learn the Word, Serve the Lord, Enrich your Life, and Build Lasting Friendships.

Worship The King…
The main reason we come together as a family of God is to worship the Lord. When we humbly put our faith and trust in Him, we receive His blessing, guidance, and peace that passes all understanding. Join us each Sunday as we worship!

Serve The Lord…
We’re privileged to serve the living God. We count it a responsibility and an honor to serve others as Jesus Christ served us. At our church, there are many opportunities for you to use your gifts to reach out to others. Here are just a few:
Food Pantry
Nonperishable food items are collected for distribution to families and individuals in need. A volunteer staff serves several hundred families every year.
Our beautiful property is the result of many volunteers who cut the grass, weed the flower beds, and maintain a beautiful setting for our church’s ministry. Helping hands are never refused!
Join one of our choirs! Our Sanctuary Choir and Chrysalis always have room for volunteers! We also welcome special music from vocalist and instrumentalist.
Summer mission trips give volunteers a “hands-on” opportunity to serve others. Recent mission trips have included opportunities for service in Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, and Mexico. At the local level, we also participate in “Make A Difference Day” each April, and provide services throughout the year the Dover Interfaith Mission For Housing. Additionally, we have a special focus and outreach to children living in poverty.
Sunday School teachers and aids are special people! We treasure our volunteers who help instruct our young learners about God’s love.
Learn the Word…
Christian Education opportunities for adults are held each Sunday morning at 9:30am. Our teachers bring the Bible to life, deriving practical applications from God’s word. The following classes are offered:
Seeking Believers: a class for men and women, using the Uniform Lesson Series
Berean: a class for men and women, using the Uniform Lesson Series
Great Truths: a discussion class for men and women using classroom video curriculum
Standard Bearers: an adult women’s Bible class for all ages
Christian Journey: A young adult (20-40 somethings) that uses the Bible as the workbook and video to accompany the learning experince.
Enrich Your Life…
Being a believer in Jesus is a wonderful adventure! There are many ways you can experience the life-changing touch of God here — Through exciting ministries, Bible studies, and special programs, men and women of all ages can live out their faith.
Mid-Week Bible Study
Our mid-week Dinner (6:00pm) and Bible Study (7:00pm) offers food for the body and the soul. Led by our pastor, our current focus is Adventures In Faith: The Life of Abraham. Our mid-week program is held on Wednesdays, September thru May. Read more here…
American Baptist Women’s Ministries
ABWM provides opportunities for women to serve God’s world. The ministry emphasizes Christian citizenship, mission education, mission involvement, and personal growth. Women may choose from three different “circles,” each meeting monthly, September-June. Our women also participate in annual conferences and retreats.
American Baptist Men
Our men gather on selected days for a time of fellowship, encouragement, and breakfast.  Additionally, our men are often involved in service projects and conferences throughout the year.
Build Lasting Friendships…
The bonds among Christian friends are like no other. We believe in cultivating relationships and strengthening these bonds. You’ll discover that encouragement, service, and love are the hallmarks of friendship here. And our arms are always open to welcome new friends.
Coffee & Fellowship
Don’t miss the weekly coffee & danish gathering before our Sunday worship service, 10:30-11:00am. It’s a great place to get connected with friends.
Tables of Eight
Get to know one another! “Tables of Eight” mixes 8 individuals/couples for four months … A monthly dinner or dessert rotates between participants, giving everyone the chance to be (once) a host and (thrice) a guest for a night of fellowship.
For those 60-ish and older, this is an opportunity for fellowship among those with Xtra Years of Zest! Each month there’s an outing to a favorite restaurant for a good meal and conversation.
